Douglas Bruno Brown

Founder

With more than 23 years of experience writing and editing for daily newspapers and magazines, Doug delivers rare talents and insights for Contact High Communications clients. Given his broad experience as a journalist, he handles a wide variety of writing projects. In addition, he understands how reporters and editors think: what kinds of pitches make news, how best to work with media professionals, and what kinds of strategies deliver the most potent media coverage. He is adept at media training, too, helping clients prepare for television and other media interviews.

He served as Washington Bureau Chief for several magazines, covered the White House and Capitol Hill, wrote about technology for national magazines, and was an award-winning food and features writer and blogger for The Denver Post for nearly a decade. His blogging won a national EPPY Award in 2013 for best food blog; newspapers around the country vie for EPPY Awards, which mark triumphs in digital media. He still does journalism when he finds time, and in 2014 was a finalist for a national magazine writing award, along with Time Magazine, for a piece he wrote about recreational marijuana in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley.

He graduated from The American University in Washington, DC with degrees in history and literature, and finished all coursework for an M.A. in journalism from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

When he’s not cooking on his Big Green Egg (an outdoor oven and grill), you can find Doug running on mountain trails around his Boulder house, puttering in the gardens, or flailing on his guitar; the latter seems to please his wife, two daughters, and dogs. But they are awfully polite.
